Mirquin:

   Registration No.: Z/20.2.6/388

Mirquin Syrup plus Proguanil provides some protection against chloroquine - resistant strains of malaria, but there is inadequate information on its efficacy against South African strains1. Chloroquine resistance is however widespread in Africa. It is currently the only alternative product registered when there are contradictions to the use of mefloquine and doxycycline e.g. early pregnancy, breastfeeding and intolerance. Chloroquine plus Proguanil can be given to children under the age of one year2.
